My Bio

I recently earned an MFA in Creative Fiction Writing at Antioch University Los Angeles. My undergraduate studies were at St. Mary’s College of California, where I earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Mass Media Communications. My writing experience is broad. I have published both creative non-fiction, essays, critical analysis, short fiction, and have been a successful grant writer.

I started my writing journey in 2005 by taking screenwriting classes. My second script, Street Ball Idol, a comedy about a hot-shot basketball player, caught the eye of Emmy Award nominee, Howard Burkons. It was during the re-write process that I discovered a preference for long-form narratives. In 2011, I enrolled in UCLA Writers Program and was nominated for the James Kirkwood Literary Prize for an excerpt of a novel work in progress.

In 2014

I was the ghostwriter for Tripping into The Light, the life story of Charlie Collins. Tripping into The Light is 5 stars rated on Amazon and has been called, “Raw and brutally honest, a tale of soaring triumphs and heartbreaking defeat.” My essays, interviews, and critical analysis have been published in L.A. Tribe Magazine and Lunch Ticket, Antioch University’s cutting-edge literary and visual arts journal. My short story, Negro in a Hot Tub is featured in Made In L.A., An Anthology of Stories Rooted in the City of Angels, written by Los Angeles based writers. My hard-boiled novel in progress, Playing Coltrane, has been called a fresh take on the genre. In addition to completing my novel, I am the sports editor at Tribe LA Magazine.

Once upon a time, I played professional football; I was the fourth pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1984 NFL draft. Today I am a member of the NFL Players Association, The NFL Players Trust, and the NFL Legends Community. I reside in Los Angeles with my beautiful wife, renowned Buddhist meditation teacher JoAnna Hardy.
